Fishing

Double Rum has been a charter vessel for 10 years. We are a Auckland based Charter vessel. We depart from Gulf Harbour any time the client wishes to depart or from Auckland. We fish the outer reaches of the Hauraki Gulf in the middle area mainly in 55 - 60 meters. Out past the cables area. Our boat, due to it''s size, fishes 12 comfortably on the drift.

We do take however larger groups out, up to 16 fishing but you must talk to the skipper about this upon booking the trip. Our trips are generally 8 hour trips. We provide all bait, rods, ice, berley and tackle used in our quotations. The species we target are Snapper, Gurnard, Skip Jack Tuna (when in season), Kingfish, Kahawai and Hapukas in winter. We also have great days shark hunting under the Harbour Bridge on Bronzewhalers, these are fun days in October / November. Not too far to go and huge fun to catch. Marlin Fishing - Tag and Release or take home. Weekdays or weekends only out of Gulf Harbour during Mid January and April 2010. Outline of the Plan: Reserve 3 to 4 days and from those allocated days we pick the best day and depart from Gulf Harbour at 4am, lures in the water by 8.30am. Sleep on the way out if needed. We provide breakfast and lunch onboard. What a way to go!

Huge day with trolling in between to hook up some King fish, Skip Jack Tuna or the occasional shark, but marlins are what we are targeting. Very experienced crew. Superb luxury boat with 4 double cabins, DVD Plasmas screen for movies and stereo system. Barbeque and fully equipped galley on board with huge chillers. We are prepared locked, loaded and ready to go. Lines are tight. Also new high fishing concept at 14 feet above the water line in a specially designed game chair developed by Coastal Marine Stainless Steel with 360 degree views plus huge potential for spotting the big ones creeping up into the wake.

We have a 21 foot width which is excellent for a set 5 pattern trail. We have caught them and have runs on the board.

Book now for this years trips. Price $3,500.00 plus GST per day. Returning back to Gulf Harbour approximately 10pm. Maximum people on board for a day trip is 6. Maximum people on board for an overnight trip is 4 people. Two night trip is $5000.00 plus GST, this can include diving if you are keen! We look forward to seeing what can be done. Thanks Brett

Diving

Brett has been diving Great Barrier, Coromandel and the Mokes for close to 30 years now, learning his trade with the Forest Hill based company Diver Services at 16 years of age.

He has dived in most bays off Great Barrier and is a specialist in cave diving, night diving and wrecks.

Alex also lives to be in the water taking his speargun on some trips to get kingfish steaks for lunch Mmmmmmmm . just dont be worried when he doesnt pop up for two minutes his breath hold, can worry most people.

Trips

The Barrier in winter offers a unique experience. We do a 2 night visit with five divers living onboard.We explore the cliffs of Catherine''s Bay and the glassy clear waters of Arid Island doing 3 dives a day. Visibility in winter is close to 90 feet .Water temperature is not cold. It surprises us actually how warm the water is around the Barrier.

The visibility is outstanding at the moment.

Cruising

Our boat is designed for functions/Boat trips for up to 22 persons for cruising the harbour.We love going up to Kawau for a day visit to Mansion House Bay or Vivian Bay and also across to Waiheke Island.

For evening Boat trips we recommend an onboard Barbeque at Tiri Tiri Matangi and a walk at dusk up the native tree lined tracks.

We pick up from Downtown Auckland area,Gulf Harbour , Pine Harbour ,Half Moon Bay and Bayswater.
