june/july 2010 As we are well into winter at the moment the boat has been brought up on the hard and annual cleaning and maintaince is underway with us painting the decks and servicing all things needed . Bring on the fishing for august september.
May - We have done a few charters this month back out in the 50m mark done really well with soft baits definitly taking the cake . had a little bit of trouble with the hated barracouta but i'm not complaining .
April 2010 - well what an epic month, fishing has improved remarkably with each charter catching there limits by sometimes 2pm. most days at least five or more coming up over 10lbs. Kingfish have not been so common this month but this doesnt matter with the snapper going so well in the northern 50m mark .
March 2010 - It is still hard fishing. We have however been able to land more good sized King Fish at Ancorite by trolling lures. We saw our first big lot of Skip Jack Tuna and hooked onto a small marlin on a ledger rig and a snapper shimano reel.Held the fish for 15 minutes. When it started to dive around and jump the line was cut plus the other 15 lines which were down got tangled up in the fight, this did not help. The weather has been good.We oganised our first competition for the "Sweet Louise" positive lives with breast cancer society. We raised $3500.00 for this caused,so job well done.
February 2010 - The boat is back in the water and we running very smoothly.
5 Mile Reef and Ancorite have been holding Rat Kingis and the occasional very big brute. Our record this year of 22 kilos has come up on Garry's watch. We have had a spell of bad fishing in mid February. It was really hard, the cold water was back in. Until the end of February fishing was patchy at Little Barrier. All reports indicate the big fish are south around the Harbour Bridge in the upper harbour not out wide.Plenty of Whales around plus thousands of Dolphions, acres of them, but no big fish. Nice weather , no trips cancelled but hard fishing.
January 2010 - Not too many trips out . The boat has been up on the hard getting engine & prop maintance and a well deserved paint. The weather has been good but most charter guys at Gulf Harbour have reported hard fishing.
December 2009 - The wind this December has been horrid. Many trips have been cancelled or delayed and the boat has taken a shocking hiding.Maintance bills are going to be huge. When we have been getting out the fishing has been steady with most trips catching bag limits of large snapper. We have noticed a huge abundance of big fat ocean going Kawahi runnig through.
November 2009 - Now we are into the fish ,every trip that goes out has huge results. Right now is the best fishing we have seen for years. So far the biggest snapper in this month is 25 lb on a soft bait plus many 18 -20 lb ones coming aboard.Squid is going off.We have a lot enquiries coming in, if the weather holds up and we continue to be on spot "X " things for the next 2-3 weeks shall be awesome.
October 2009 - We have a new crew member , Chris who wishes to get his hours up to apply to his deckhand certificate. He has done his course in Warkworth and needs hours. Finally we start to catch snapper, not large ones but fish none the less. Most trips go back with a decent feed.Coby Exhausts had a huge day. These guys came up from Hamilton and got the weather right and caught lots of snapper.
September 2009 - The weather has improved slightly .40 knot winds have dropped down to 30, water temp is still 14 degrees. We notice an increase in bait fish back in the marina. The times we have gone out into the deep we notice lots of birds working but still hard to get any decent fish.Lots on the sounder ,just hard work to get a feed.
August 2009 - Stuck in at the marina ,weather has been lousy all month. When we do have a chance to go out there is very little fsh activity . Hard to catch a feed. Revert to Plan B - maintance on the boat. We have put down a new Teak deck to inhance the appearance of Double Rum. Cleaned out the fuel tanks to get rid of the diesel bug which seems to have spread with the rubbish fuel which we pick up,contaminated with water. This is a big major job. Garry is not happy.
July 2009 - We have been going our deep to catch Hapuka at Cuvier Island with great success plus targeting Snapper in the shallows. However the wind and rain has kept us in port,it has been difficut for us to get trips organised....
June 2009 - A variety of fish have been caught. Very large Frost Fish have been coming up along with Red Snapper, Blue Cod, Large Kahawai and some King Fish which were still around.
